TFT LCD panels and touch display modules for embedded applications
NorthBridge Display sources TFT LCD panels and integrated touch display modules for embedded systems, IoT devices, kiosks, POS terminals, and custom hardware — across MIPI DSI, LVDS, eDP, RGB, SPI, and HDMI interface types.
Interface selection is one of the most common compatibility challenges in embedded display design. We help clarify interface options based on your processor, board layout, and display size requirements before you commit to a panel.
Display interface reference
The interface between your display and host system determines hardware compatibility. Here is a practical comparison of the most common TFT LCD interfaces and their typical use cases.
Primary interface for modern application processors (Qualcomm, NXP, Rockchip, Raspberry Pi compute modules). High bandwidth, low pin count. Best for compact board-attached display designs under 10".
Most common interface for 7"–15" industrial and embedded displays. Operates over flat-flex cable, supports longer panel-to-board distance. Widely supported by industrial processors and FPGAs.
Embedded DisplayPort, increasingly used in 10"–15.6" high-resolution panels. Fewer lanes than LVDS for equivalent resolution. Becoming the replacement for LVDS in newer industrial designs.
Used for smaller displays (typically under 5") connected to microcontrollers. Simple to implement but consumes significant I/O. Limited to lower-resolution panels under 800×480.
Serial Peripheral Interface used for very small displays (under 3") in microcontroller applications. Low pin count but limited data rate — suitable for simple status displays and small GUIs.
Used in display modules (not bare panels) for convenient display attachment. Standard in development boards, digital signage players, and applications where plug-and-play compatibility is valued over integration efficiency.
Touch display options
PCAP (Projected Capacitive)
Interface: USB HID or I2CThe standard for modern touch displays. Supports multi-touch (typically 5–10 point), provides a glass-smooth touch surface, and works reliably with bare fingers. Glove-compatible variants available for industrial use.
- Multi-touch support
- Glass surface feel
- High durability
- Stylus compatible
Resistive Touch
Interface: 4-wire, 5-wire, USBWorks with any pointing device including gloved hands, stylus, or any object. No glass surface — uses a flexible plastic overlay. More rugged in environments with liquid or debris on the screen surface.
- Glove/stylus/any object
- Lower cost
- Works with liquids on screen
- No electromagnetic sensitivity
